Ford EV drivers can now charge on Tesla's best-in-class NACS Charging Network.
Tyler Bullen
Today marks the first day that Tesla’s formerly-proprietary NACS (North American Charging Standard) network opens to Ford EV drivers. Back in November, we wrote about how adopting Tesla’s standard charging network for the entire continent would add new charging options and reduce the dreaded “range anxiety” that keeps many Americans reluctant to go all-in on EVs. As of today, Ford will begin sending an adapter, free of charge, to any Ford EV owner so they can plug in to Tesla’s charging stations. (Like many automakers, Ford announced that models starting in 2025 will come with NACS built in.)
Charger availability remains the single greatest hurdle to mass EV adoption. With this move, we’re seeing those barriers begin to fall. Next up? Massive investment by private companies to meet the expected tenfold increase in chargers the U.S. will need by 2030.
